Scientists can grow frog and mouse meat in the lab, and are now working on pork, beef and chicken. Their goal is to develop an industrial version of the process in five years.

Vat-grown food is, effectively, what feeds the majority of the world in my version of 2050 Shadowrun. In this version of events, economic and environmental factors caused all but a small fraction of 2nd Millennium farming practices to come to a halt. (Hmm, smells like Bladerunner and a dozen other cyberpunk tales. Oops.)
